Always a Good Day for Die Hard

A Good Day to Die Hard: Why? Because fuck you that's why. It's the best franchise out there and even a crappy Die Hard movie is better than any Twilight or similar bullshit. Bruce Willis is getting up there but that doesn't mean he can't still be a badass. He just might need to be a badass with a walker soon.

The most recent Die Hard installment definitely takes a different tact than the previous four. While normally John McClane finds himself in trouble in the normal course of his job, this time he ends up needing to go to Russia to help his son who is being held in a Russian prison. As usual things are not so straight forward and McClane finds himself thrown into a world of espionage, politics, and lots of trouble with his son. The plot is thin enough so I don't want to give anything away. Plot takes a serious backseat to action and violence, which in this case I'm totally okay with.

The writers and/or director definitely thought they were super witty for throwing in a lot of references back to the original Die Hard film. Unfortunately these references were far too blatant and just seemed desperate and pandering and detracted from the movie experience in my opinion. The original should remain untouched because it was not only entertaining and violent, but also had good writing and acting, something each subsequent film has had less and less of; unfortunately leaving classics untouched is not Hollywood's strong suit.

This is likely going to be the first Die Hard I WON'T own, which makes me sad. I know all good things must come to an end, but it's hard for me to admit that Die Hard is now one of them. What's more sad is that they (again, in their terribly subtle manner) have alluded to a continuation of the franchise using John McClane Jr. as the leading man. That's just not okay. If that happens expect to see a little blonde girl boycotting the nearest movie theater because NO. Just NO.
